top secret projex

just posted up a couple of new images here... the first is a concept drawing for a new project ive been working on for a while now, and taking my sweet time nailing down every piece of it before i actually draw the first page. but it's a secret for now. so be intrigued.

the second drawing is one of my favorite alien heroes from BEN10, his name is CANNONBOLT and has the ability to roll up in a ball and bounce around at high speeds like sonic the hedgehog, hes pretty awesome.

both drawings were done in pencil, ink, and some prismacolor markers, the first one i used white paint on as well to add to the madness in the machinery.
dig it.

hey its me again, and im still in NY

ive been here for a long time, pretty awesome. went to a passover SEDER last night, lots of wine, lots of matza. the actual comic con was done yesterday but today i went al around the city, and got info to sell my book at MIDTOWN COMICS which is like, the biggest, best place, so that will be cool. not to much else to report here yet, still waiting to hear from some of the publishers i gave my book to, even if nothing comes out of it, its not over. i also just put in for a table at next years comiccon to exhibit in the artists alley, hoping to have a few more books by then!

last day of comiccon

today is sunday, ive been at the convention the past two days, and it was awesome, but my feet really hurt. like real bad. but its all good. ive been meeting alot of publishers and artists, and taking alot of pictures. i got a perspective lesson from famous artist/image comics editor ERIK LARSON, got a signature on thor issue one from OLIVER COIPEL, and had lunch next to some storm troopers. all in all its going pretty well with the publishers ive actually given the book to, the response was good, and they said they would be in touch. hopefully, i do know im going to sign up early for next year, and get a table with some more projects il have finished by then. its time to get back to work, get back to drawing. anyway, putting my boots back on, and going back out into the madness. -ben

new york comiccon TOMORROW

i'm doing laundry, packing bags, signing books, drinking coffee and watching ben10 right now, all in preparation for the highly anticipated weekend of the year, NY COMICCON! ill be waking up really early and taking a bus from portland to boston south station, where i will then transfer to another bus and risk my life on the FUNGWAH china town bus, which have been known to catch on fire and explode, but its really cheap! so why not chance it.
the plan for NY is to walk around the convention to the tables of diffeent publishers im interested in (5 in particular) and show them my book, and give them a packaged copy of their own with a short cover letter explaining what im looking for, and hope that by the end of the weekend i have some good news, and this 100 book first run is the only self published run of NATHAN THE CAVEMAN ever... making all those who purchased one proud owners of rare limited edition copies. yay. so wish me luck.
in other news...
---i got a postcard from the XERIC GRANT telling me that they have received my grant application, and will be reviewing it on may 1st. so that is exciting! i wont find out if i won though until the first week of june or something.
---out of the 100 books i ordered, i only have 16 more to actually sell. :)
like hot cakes baby...

2 hour layover in philly

so im sitting here in a rocking chair. seems a little out of place in an airport, but theyre everywhere, there are almost as many rocking chairs in this airport as there are baseball diamonds in philadelphia, which is alot of damn baseball diamonds, i couldnt believe it looking down from the plane, crazy. i just had a burger and a few beers, trying to get drunk so i cant smell the bald man in front of me on the next flight farting the whole way like i experienced on the way here. this was the second time today i didnt get carded, it must be the beard. my brothers having a baby tonight in manchester NH, so after tonight you can all call me uncle ben. not the rice bowl guy, but the old man who dies creating the catalyst that is... SPIDERMAN, he also played the president in escape from LA, that one, thats me. this airport is completely out of control, between dodging the billions of white rocking chairs and ducking beneath little shits flying brookstone mini helicopters inches over my head, the whole place smells like farts. i noticed i was on a rant, because im so bored, and trying to look smart on my laptop in front of all the pretty girls walking by. wow. i should sign off now.

key points-
brothers having a kid
beards = beers
philly smells like farts
pretty girls dont care about guys on laptops

so im in VIRGINIA

and it is hot. visiting my dad in his new house, its great. i was sitting outside on the front porch drawing all morning, well not all morning, i watched some ben10 too. but the warm breeze outside is really awesome, a little different from the frigid ocean breeze im used to in portland, but i havent decided whats better, each in moderation i guess, like strawberry milk...
anyway, this weekend im doing alot of thinking about different projects i cant wait to begin next, now that my book is done. from comics, to cartoons, and all the things in between, i cant wait to be way to busy again soon.
